| The FERS benefit package requires that employees understand their benefit package and what their responsibilities are early in their career, this is particularly true for employees in hazardous duty positions. In FERS a hazardous duty employee can retire at any age with 25 years of certified service or at 50 with 20 years. Therefore, they can have a retirement that is much longer than their federal career.
We have tailored the Benefit Orientation to cover the provisions that are unique to hazardous duty employees. Of course, the general provisions applicable to all FERS employees are also covered.
